Jardim das Amoreiras, formally named Jardim Marcelino Mesquita, has an area of six thousand square meters, being partially delimited by the Águas Livres Aqueduct and located on Mãe d'Água, historical water supply site to the city of Lisbon and current Water Museum. It's a delightful place. In one of its boundaries, visitors can find the Árpád Szenes-Vieira da Silva Foundation, installed in the old silk factory, the chapel of Nossa Senhora de Monserrate and several 18th century houses, originally built to house the workers of the silk factory. The chapel of Nossa Senhora de Monserrate is located next to the fifth arch of the aqueduct and was built by order of the Brotherhood of Silk Manufacturers, during the 18th century. In the center of the garden is a circular fountain, which is flanked by stone benches.

The building of the garden adjacent to the Imperial Residence began in 1961 as a part of the construction of the Imperial Palace complex in accordance with the cabinet decision of 29 January 1960. The 210,000 square metres garden was completed in September 1968, and has been open to the public since 1 October of the same year, except when it is used for official events. The Toukagakudo (Imperial Concert Hall) and Sannomaru Shozokan (Museum of the Imperial Collections), as well as buildings housing the Imperial Household Agency's Music, Archives and Mausolea departments, are located within this garden. About 80 km from Vienna, an hour away by car, is Dürnstein.
